Delarmy _ Part II

Happy Birthday, Richard Armitage !

(Omitted picture of a cake. - Sorry, I still need to painstaikingly avoid anything with sugar. Fortunately RA is sweet in another way ;o)

A wonderful birthday-post with a donation of US$ 1,- for each commentator commenting on the post is on Servetus' blog.
I am reluctant to make someone else donate for me, so I hesitate to comment, but please feel free to comment there and raise Servetus' donation.

Due to work pressure and my limited access, I am neither well informed nore up to date on RA's projects, though I try to follow as much as I can.
But for the day, it rather seems more sensible for me to post what has rested on my blog unfinished for a long while, to join in on the birthday party:

That Richard Armitage gets the role of every hero I read about in a book, is no wonder, as I admire his work.
But that other people I know, but are not in the fandom, begin to see him in books as well, is surprising, even for me.
The one book, I already told you about, where I pictured him as a hero, was the one written by a close contact of me:

Chris T. Delarmy's "Rescued Hostage"

But now, a publishing contact of mine, who also read the book - and enjoyed it - saw him in the male leading role of the book as well, though she and her partner are not part of his fandom.
That was a surprise to me, when I got that feedback.

Perhaps the description of the grumpy hero would somehow be a role for RA?
Who knows.
I can't depict him in the book in one of his previous roles. He rather is much more distinguished and perhaps a bit self-assured, bordering on arrogant, in this book. A role he in my opinion has not played so far. Though perhaps, his role in the book could steal some aspects from "North and South"?

Now that also the German edition of the book is finished and published,
I wanted to know even more details from the author Chris T. Delarmy, how the hero is depicted in his head.
The first answer I got was, that the author intentionally wanted to leave the description of the hero relatively vague in the book, to let each reader depict his/her own favourite guy and heroine in the main roles.
Consequently, I could not sit still or remain silent and of course wanted to know, how Chris T. Delarmy saw the hero in his mind. And what an answer I got then ;o)

Of course Richard Armitage. What better man could be the hero of a novel with an a bit grumpy hero. Not that RA would ever be as grumpy as my hero in the book. But RA would be an excellent actor, to do the multitude of facettes and layers of the hero justice, which I don't think many other actors could even try to attempt. So yes, in my mind, Richard Armitage played out my hero in the book. That was rather helpful to depict the actions and rather quick moving argumentations of the book and keep track with the hero's intentions, schemes and intrigues.

As the book from the way the story is told as well as from its setup would be ideal for filming, I naturally wanted to know, if Richard Armitage would be the ideal hero for a film in the author's mind:

Yes, Richard Armitage is exactly the man I depicted in the novel and I would see as ideal for a film. Though I would not see him following an exact role he has already played, but he would be able to show his acting talent in getting into a new environment and mindset.

As the hero of the book also has quite a journey to go through, I even think he might be an interesting character to get into and follow on his journey through the adventures of the book.

Prof. Lynford is not a static character. He went through a lot and needs a new perspective on life and what is really important for him. During the story, he needs to change his outlook on things around him.

As I am no screenwriter and my story is not written as a screenplay, it is an honour that you think the book would be ideal to be filmed.
The one thing I certainly would like to see on a big screen, would be the explosion (no spoilers here!) and the hero's reaction to it on board of his sailing boat.
That would be a thing I would love to see Richard Armitage to enact.

Also his reaction during the questioning regarding this explosion and his argumentative ways would be a thing I would like to see and emotionally played to its full potential by Richard Armitage.

Chris T. Delarmy told me much more than this, but I don't want to bore you with a long interview here.
If you have more questions to the author, please let me know and I can ask them in follow up interviews later on.

Now I wish you lots of enjoyment with the books and with the birthday celebrations for Richard Armitage.
Delarmy (Author)
From a rare poster, lured out by the birthday celebrations, I want to share a special treat with you today.

I did an interview with a new author, who has a connection to the RA-fandom and chose a pseudonym for the first written novel from one of my fan-stories posted here on this blog.

So what better way to introduce this new author, than to do an interview right here, where the name comes from.

Interview with Chris T. Delarmy

As your pen-name is a creation from one of my fan-stories (with my permission and I am really proud), my first question naturally goes to Richard Armitage.
Are you a fan of the actor Richard Armitage?

Yes, I admit to my addiction to certain roles of RA and also my admiration for the sensible way he does interviews. In an interview, he first caught my attention and I only later discovered his film oevre.

That immediately leads to my second question. What is your favourite role of Richard Armitage?

That is a really hard one to answer. I would have said Lucas North in "Spooks", but the way he was written out of the series spoiled my previous enjoyment of the role deeply. So I would need to evade this role and go to John Porter in "Strike Back". The new "Berlin Station", as much as I could get hold of it so far, was not able to convince me yet and I am still on the fence regarding this role.

I rather go for my possible all-time-favourite, Mr. John Thornton in "North & South", as I am partial to historical film and this one in particular.

Now knowing your role- and time-preferences. How does it come that your first published novel, though entirely fictional, is a contemporary story?

That is a rather long story in itself, how that came to be.

But to tell a long story short, I for years now have a story about a certain character in the late 18th century in mind. The story and adventures grow and grow in my mind and during all that time, another author (completely unrelated to me or my story) used my character's name in his own novel for a story in another timeframe, where the real family I need as a background for my main character was already extinct.

But the main problem was, that with my ideas for the story continuously growing, also my expectations towards it grew and grew and put so much pressure on me, that I had to write and execute something else instead.

As I have many story-drafts for diverse stories in my cupboard, I just had to stick to one idea and so I ordered myself to write and finish the next story that came to my mind.

And Sophia, the quirky, inquisite grad-student came to my mind and never let go.

Who is Sophia? Do you know a real person Sophia, the heroine of your book, resembles?

No, not really. Though her curious traits might be a bit lent from myself. But otherwise, she is assembled according to an imaginary person I really would like to meet. Her directness, her going after what she feels is right, really makes me want to meet her. It was hard to finish the book and to let go of her.

And your main character, Prof. Lynford? Is he somewhat like you or eventually like Richard Armitage?

Perhaps a bit like me, in his grumpy, annoying way. But I should rather not admit to that.

He takes time to warm up to, but he went through a lot, so it is worth the patience with him.

As to be inspired by Richard Armitage or one of his roles, I can't really say. Perhaps a bit like the early John Porter, but more from the book than the films, but mostly rather not.

Prof. Lynford just is his own annoying self, trying to get whatever he wants in his own twisted way.

What made you chose that exact pen-name for you then, if there is no exact Richard Armitage role or reference in your book?

First of all, I liked the sound of the name in itself. It stuck with me the first time I read it. I also liked the French origins of this still English sounding name.

Chris is one of my own names, so the jump was not too far. And T. stands for my mother's name. So in principle, my pen-name combines

- something from myself

- something from my heritage and

- something from my inspiration.

And you don't, by chance, want to lift your pseudonym?

No, definitely not. I have a publishing cover-up and co-corrector involved, who know my real name, but that is as far as my 'outing' goes.

And what are your plans for the future? Is another book already in the pipeline?

I admit, I rather cheated with the 'next book idea' part I mentioned before. I switched to the 'second' one in the row, when I made the same mistake with my first idea which I had made with my historical idea.

With my first idea, I liked the basic idea so much, that I found all my efforts not worthy for an execution. So I had to put it aside for a while. Now that "Rescued Hostage" is finished (though I am still sitting over the German version of if) I am coming back to this 'first' idea, which now hopefully will be my second book.

Can you already tell us, what the second book will be about?

It once again will be "A Camsted Adventure", like Sophia's story, though it will be a completely independent story with new characters. I don't want to reveal more yet, perhaps except that the headcount [murder cases - Clarification by CDoart] will be a bit higher than in the first book.

So now, the one remaining thing to do is, to let you know more about this book by Chris T. Delarmy. (Do I really need to reveal, where the name 'Delarmy' comes from?)

I myself already read and enjoyed the book very much and must admit, that it hit my kind of humour very much. To have a thriller and a quirky love story, which also makes you laugh and think about how you would want the world to develop to make it a tad bit better? This story combines not just adventure and suspense, but all in all is funnily told and enjoyable and gripping.

I certainly could use a Sophia, to solve some of my computer problems ;o)

Book-description:

Sophia, working at home for her graduate studies, sees a man in a window across the street. She immediately takes action when she thinks this man might be in danger. But this pulls her into a vortex of trouble both with secret services and the organized crime.

Can this naïve young woman take on those powerful organizations and get out of the problems she rushed into head first? Can she and the man she begins to have feelings for, make it out of their troubles alive? And is he even worth caring for, or rather one of the bad guys?

Follow Sophia from her desk at home on her way into adventures and dangers beyond her wildest imagination, where curiosity about a stranger lead her.

It's been a while. I still have a few more food-posts for RA-characters in my drafts, but when living without sweets and fruit, thumbing through cookbooks and recipes becomes a rather uncomfortable pastime.

</ br>

Also, as I have recognised, one strangely becomes quite unsocial, when each birthday among your acquaintances means, you have to explain at length, why you can't participate with the birthday cake or celebratory alcohol. Or if you don't and they press some on you, you are ill for days to come.
Also, when you are invited, the easiest contribution to a party is no longer possible for you. You can't make a salad or a dessert, as each contains a load of things you have meticulously banned from your vicinity. When you are standing around at the party and try to discern, what the things you might try to eat are cooked with, each cook feels offended by your close scrutiny. So you rather avoid to get close to something to eat, as the hosts would rather feel offended, if you even tried to bring some of the for you still edible food ...

</ br>

Fortunately, all those problems do not arise with a virtual birthday cake!

</ br>

And so I can freely join today's celebrations.

</ br>

Happy Birthday, Richard Armitage !

glitter-graphics.com
</ br>

I very much hope, RA and you all still can enjoy an occasional cake and sweets and tasty food for real, not just virtually.

</ br>

Happy celebrations and lots of sweets and sweetness to you all!

</ br>

As a special present to celebrate, I will also post an interview with a new author, who took his name from one of my fan-stories (with my permission). So it is not too much to say, that he has a connection to the RA-fandom. But I will ask him about that in the interview. So more later ...

As I never really accepted, that Lucas North was indeed John Bateman or that John Bateman's story in Spooks 9 held any reliable truth in it, I will treat him here as a separate character from Lucas North, the able agent and spy. (It would render MI5 rather incompetent and though I have deep doubt about competence in our current time in almost every sector of life. To fool a whole agency of supposedly excellent spies for years, fool the KGB and its successor as well, fool the Chinese,... That would really be a topic tickling my funny bone, but honestly, I still don't believe a word of it.)

Characterisation of John Bateman

Fortunately, I have pushed the memory of John Bateman far enough to the back of my mind by now.
But what impressed me in the way of John Bateman, was his love of number games and mysteries.
His time spent in Dakar has given him a valuable insight in another world, either of prestige and the moneyed, as well as in the way of how to behave to represent a special image he wanted to create, to drag himself out of poverty. His interest in observing others, while keeping his own emotions in check, was toned and attuned here. So Dakar not only defined his further life, but also the tastes and characteristics he later presents to the world.

Food suggestion for John Bateman

Tieboudienne (= rice with fish) in any form and variety. (A good description can be found here: PaulsTravelBlog)
Whenever his British roots come out, he would crave fatty fish and chips.
As John Bateman always has secrets, here his biggest: He has a sweet tooth and likes deserts of any kind, especially chocolate cake and in the heat of Dakar lots of chocolate ice cream with fruits, especially strawberries, reminding him of home and his mother and happy times.

Characterisation of Lucas North

Lucas North is an insecure character, who wants to fit in and show his abilities and fitness to be taken seriously in his profession and by his peers, a veneer he wants to hide behind. He demands the highest from himself, but internally fears, that he won't be able to meet the demands put on him by his job and others, because of his background, because of his upbringing, because of his time spent in a Russian prison (and as the last episode of Spooks 9 also suggests) because of all his lies of and in his life he tried so hard to hide.

Food suggestion for Lucas North

Carpaccio (Original version developed by Giuseppe Cipriani in Venice) - with white bread and an excellent vintage Italian red wine - (Heeding the current Italian food appreciation in the U.K., while still fitting his desire for rawness and immediacy).

Later to relax, his time in Russia would come out and show in his further choice:
Russian caviar - champagne (vodca would be too disabling for an agent and Lucas North has too much style to drug himself senselessly). Russian blini as a sweet dessert.

Lucas North, as pale as he is, does not seem to me as an entirely healthy or health oriented man. So vegetables are out of the question for him.

Last year, with lots of work, she went under deep cover needing more fun and distraction than a fearful Alp-traveler from the ancient world could deliver. The new year then started with her leaving out almost an entire month, spending it in 'sweet' agony, throwing her well ordered world back into total chaos. As a result of it, now all sweetness is meticulously banned from her life.

No sweet Easter eggs, no chocolate bunny, no cake, no juice or fruit, no ... ;o(
Well, hopefully in the far distant future, the sweetness will come back, slowly, gradually, eventually ...

So lots of RA-sweetness is needed, to compensate the lost sweetness in life.

RA-candy ;o)
as the new life, like the old, is just not possible without sweetness.

Hello Friends !!!
I am back. Not entirely well and carrying quite a bit less weight around with me, but back at least, curiously looking and discovering and finding it astonishing that I am still around ;o)

I hope you are all fine and thriving and enjoying RA's talent to the fullest.

Best wishes and greetings,
CDoart ;o)
Envy is a sentiment I normally can't relate to.
I am ambitious, if I want something I have to work hard to get there, but I don't envy somebody else what he has or what he achieved. Never.

But this one time, I would want something for someone else and not the one who got the chance to do it.
Reading a poem by Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy about King Richard III at his funeral ceremony on Thursday, March 26th.

The next BBC King Richard III may read it and not Richard Armitage.

Perhaps it is fortunate that I won't be able to see the ceremony anyway, because it is not transmitted on TV in Germany. I don't think my none existent TV-set would have been safe. Now I just need to secure my computers ;o)
The first time I killed a man ...

No, you need not be worried. I was nowhere near RA and RIII was killed long before I was even born. So all living or dead men are safe from me. Just not so much my fantasy men ;o)

There I am quite blood-thirsty, especially against men. Women in my story have a much safer life. In my first ever novel draft I wrote more than 15 year ago, which I some weeks ago un-dusted and re-opened, a dead man was found on the first page. In Venice of all cities. So quite definitely my all time favourite fantasy story ;o)
I answered a writing prompt by Ella Drayton
and now my little story was featured in her post about her new writing prompt:
<< SPOILER WARNING ! >>
(I do refer to the ending of Hobbit III, so only read if you already know or have seen the film yourself.)

You know, if you follow my blog for a while, that I am not a hardcore Tolkien or Hobbit fan. I have major reservations against both and don't like the factual writing style of both Tolkien and his friend C.S. Lewis.

So my reservations to go into the third part of "The Hobbit" were major. (Especially when I was already well aware of the necessary ending.)

The only reason, why I follow the trilogy and the filming so closely is RA. Otherwise, only the used new filming technology would have been able to draw me to the project.

So, starting with the hard background facts, I now can go on with the bad things first, what I don't like about the third part, to later get to what I really liked and what brought me to tears at the end (sorry, RA, unfortunately not you).

In this earlier post, Thorin & A Lot More (Relevant part starting quite far down in the last two sectors with: The one thing lots of J.R.R. Tolkien or C.S. Lewis (Narnia) interpretations don't mention, ...)
I already wrote how I interpret "The Hobbit" and why I only accept a slim way of interpretation.
I also see that my interpreting of the reasons which lead to the conflict and war, are hard to depict in a film. So it was to be expected that Sir Peter Jackson would have to avoid this rather underhanded reasoning and go for the obvious and depictable reasons.

Unfortunately, he did exactly that, but it is nothing I had not anticipated ahead of time. So during the film I took notice of what I found a too strongly stressed 'dragon sickness', which makes Thorin Oakenshield the obvious war-cause. (Which in the book, he is not.)
The ambivalent reasoning and accumulation of war causes is about the only thing I really like about "The Hobbit" book, by the way. The way the build up for war is written into the reasoning of each side and their traditions and commemorations of their ancestors. There is not the one aggressor, the one reason, the one cause, like in the film. You still can glimpse a bit of the original, but the film focuses too much on the dragon sickness of Thorin, to be to my liking. It makes the reason for war too easy, too obvious, too computer game like, too unquestionable, too un-research-worthy, too common place. That takes away from the one thing of reality Tolkien had built into his story line, and makes it a simple film answer.
I know the way film scripts work, I know the things that can be expressed in dialogue and pictures are limited. Still, I miss the ambivalence concerning this question in the film.

But!

As I had anticipated that anyway, with all the focus on the size changing dragon, which by the way still did not impress me, that aspect did not distract from my enjoyment of the last part of "The Hobbit" trilogy.

And what I now really enjoyed about the third part of "The Hobbit", was the homogenous integration of the 3D effects. They worked perfectly and enhanced the film experience greatly for me.
For the first time, they really felt completely comfortable, not added, but as they should be. So I must admit, though I knew the sad ending, I liked the third part best of all.

I just wonder, what stories the dwarves will tell about Thorin in the future, as none of them, not even Bilbo Baggins, have seen his heroic fight. (Or perhaps will they get a copy of Sir Peter Jackson's film, to tell the true story?) No point of critique, just something I wondered about.
I also wondered about the military strategy of the dwarves and elves. In the way the dwarves used Roman formation, they would have killed the elves together with the other opponents without further distinction. That was a film strategy, I clearly did not understand and am sure would not have worked in a real battle environment. (Also most of the other fighting scenes are far from a real setting, but computer game like, where after killing an opponent, one just takes the strength of the killed opponent and can go on fighting forever.)
So I clearly am not the greatest fan of the mass fighting scenes, though they make the most work producing and I see what great effort was put into them.

The thing which brought me to tears strangely was a role I so far had not much cared about. The king of the elves, Thranduil. Recognising that time and reason is not everything, but that emotion has its place in the world and the working of things. That was a hard process for him to come to that conclusion and a hard mental fight with his 'loved' son.
This emotionally impressed me so much, that Tauriel and Kili, as well as Thorin and Bilbo were pressed into the background.

Sorry, Thorin. But your death scene was good, but I had expected it. I was disappointed that nobody will be able to tell about your true bravery in your last battle (except the watchers of the film, but not your fellow dwarves or hobbits or elves or ...)
And I must admit, for me Bilbo distracted from the severeness of the scene. I just see him as a constant humorist, so the tragic moment was lost on me.

Fili and Kili were more tragic for me (though I knew they had to die as well), but still, the realising of the death of a life concept by Thranduil still beat everything else for me.

Just thinking about it - what I do miss in the three Hobbit-films:

Where is Thorin's father?

Where is the explanation for how Gandalf got the key from Thorin's father?

Where is the explanation for how Thorin's father disappeared and no longer has a right to the throne of the dwarves?

Who will be able to document the death of Thorin and sing about it to future dwarf generations, when all were either asleep or far away at the time it happened?

Where is Thorin's burial ceremony? (Had thought they possibly could take notes for King Richard III's re-burial in Leicester in March 2015. No, nothing. Bilbo just tries to quietly steal away. How unceremonious for a 'dear friend', as he last had proclaimed.)

I did not read any of the other Hobbit III reviews, so if I repeat things or don't refer to anything, that is because of my total ignorance. (I am living on work cloud XX right now) ;o)
Thank you so much, Fabolaktuko !!!

I sometimes do interviews, but only really very rarely feel myself being interesting enough to be asked questions in an interview myself and for myself.

1. If you could take Richard Armitage on vacation with you anywhere in the world (except ski resorts) where would it be and why?
Venice - I hope Richard Armitage likes museums (perhaps better to say, loves museums in abundance and never ending), because I have never been to Venice, but studied the history and would like to see every possible museum and library and archive there that is available and accessible to the public.
So it would take a while to get me away from there and stop me talking about all the "Kaiserpakta" (emperors' pacts with Venice), the battles, the maritime inventions, the book printing industry and the democratic specialty of La Serenissima. I so far have not found anyone who would endure me for the length of time necessary to appease my Venice enthusiasm and tolerant enough to bear my company on all the tours and discoveries I would like to make there.
My mother once told me, I should take my future husband on a honeymoon trip there. My comment only was: "That would be quite a short marriage then".
Her response to that was, I should have more confidence in men.
I could try if that works with RA ;o)

2. What is your favorite RA interview?
The first interview I saw with RA and the BBC (27.10.2008), [just can't find a working link to the interview right now and the old link where I saw it on YouTube does not work any longer.], which resulted in me becoming an irrevocable fan, because of the polite and still critical way of an upstanding and sensitive actor.

3. If you were producing a movie starring RA what would it be and who would be the director?
For me, of course: King Richard III
Director - I am not good with choosing one. I would leave that choice to Richard Armitage himself.

4. Your favorite RA sweater?
Sky blue, the photo series just makes him look so ethereal. (I am searching for a link to the images, but can't (any longer?) find them on my go-to source RANet.com.)
I must admit, I normally have my problems with v-necked t-shirts or sweaters on men. (Must be a continental thing. On one of my first visits to the U.K. I was asked if I felt it was o.k. for men to wear v-necks. I was astonished about the necessity for such an absurd question, as those styles are a no-go for men here where I live and men think them to be efeminating, except perhaps in combination with a shirt beneath and then they might seem a bit oldfashioned or nerdy.)
But RA certainly makes them work to perfection, so my general style guides don't apply to him. (Though I still hesitate concerning stripes (except fine pinstripes), dots and checks. Ihhh...)

5. What was your favorite movie as a child?
I can't remember having had one. But you could always convince me to watch a film, if there were pirates or ships in the movies or it was something historical.

6. What is your favorite comfort food?
Chocolate
Tomato sauce with Knödel/dumplings of some kind
Blaukraut
(For the height of effect of the last two, only my mother's would do. Not even my mere cooking, knowing what I like, would suffice.)

7. Favorite RA hair? Thorin, Guy (season 1, 2 or 3), Proctor, Lucas North, or John Strandring (pre or post haircut)?
Lucas North mostly had a quite lax haircut, but still, I quite liked him that way. Not overly fussy and no stickler for accuracy, but still sweet and decisively male. Proctor on the other hand represents the stickler for accuracy and the necessity of strict order for me, another very attractive extreme on RA. Though he has a beard here, even the beard is short cropped and under control.
I also like the long and well cared for look of Guy of Gisborne’s hair in few parts of series 3, but that look did not last nice for long. I am surprised about that, because only few men can turn long hair into a sexy work of seduction, but RA obviously can. He should really play a historic role, where long hair is necessary. Would like to see him with a wig once. (So not only a Richard III role, but also another historical role would be on my wish list, if I could have a say in the decision making.)
Do I really have to chose just one haircut? As long as it is RA's hair (or Guy's extensions), long short or ruffled, that mostly is enough for me: I just don't like his hair's look as John Standring.

8. Are you a day person or a night person?
More a night person. I need some time to get my body working and into a creative mood, which normally takes till evening, till my brain is not just coping, but creating.

9. Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream?
Straciatella, if I could choose. I like both, vanilla and chocolate, so a combination of the two normally would be my choice and straciatella does that quite fine ;o)

10. Favorite RA premiere look?
Phiuhhh, that is hard. I neither like stripes nor checks nor spots (as mentioned previously), so definitely all those things are quite out of the question for me. Though lately one checkered look was not all too bad on RA.
But I must admit, I am rather an admirer of formal wear and RA just looks so wonderful in it. And aubergine/dark, deep violet/lila is my favourite colour, so the first Wellington premiere with the dark cravat is my absolute none plus ultra.

11. Favorite TV Series?
Spooks (though series 9 still rises some issues with me and I still feel it is a bit of a let down on the possibilities it previously had.)
Le Floch (with Jérôme Robart) - even a few ships ;o)
Hornblower (with Ioan Gruffudd) - full of ships. Though some sink, I am still in heaven here with the wonderful film music I just can't get enough of.
Smuggler (with Oliver Tobias) - Ships again ;o)
Though I am sure on board of a ship myself, I would follow Mr. Hornblower's example and would be 'seasick in Spithead'. You will know what that means, when you have watch part 1 of the series ;o)

As I am not up to date with blog reading and discovering new blogs, I must admit, that I did not come up with a new list of blogs to recommend. I follow a few blogs and some of them for a long while, but quite a few of them became famous by now and do not fit the 1.000 followers recommendation any longer. So for now, I have to pass and postpone the naming of new "Liebster Award" nominees for a later time.

A well balanced and charitable message this year - and via the new medium Twitter, that for the first time allows me to embed the message here ( so of course I can't resist):
Uttering some intent just does not work out for me!
See what happened after my last post.
I merely utter my plans to continue with "Intrigue" and total chaos comes out of it.

When I finally had managed to get up ahead of work and keep up with the day to day business, I thought I could sit down, relax a bit and get back to my story "Intrigue".
The next thing that happens is, my telephone (business phone line) and internet stop working, not entirely, but break off every few minutes and need some more minutes to come back and work for a few minutes, before the whole thing starts all over again.

So, what do I do, of course - my daily business anyway, call the hotline. [Can I suggest 'hotline' for the "Unwort des Jahres"? It certainly is mine!]

The first hotline lady, I soon bring to the end of her wisdome with my case, so I am transferred to a technical guy, who makes me restart, reset, test and re-do everything imaginable, till he is at the end of his wisdom as well. So we settle for a replacement of the router, to at least try to solve the strange problem. (Did I ever say I had 'normal' hotline problems? - Well, never the easy stuff for me.)
So, I wait patiently for the replacement router, go to my parents and their internet connection ín the meanwhile to work from there, but for reasons unknown, the connection there is almost as bumpy as my own. Then the replacement arrives and, at first, does not work either - though not in the same way, but completely not. After days of trying to get it to work and then in my desperation completely ignoring the given setup instructions, I can finally bring the thing to work ;o)

Long storry short, my nerves are nonexistent now, as the breakdown quite naturally happened, when I had a list of online contractual work to complete.
I am still behind with that and it is not likely I will catch up any time soon.

The end result of it all is:

Now I am back in my normal chaos. All effort to the contrary was in vain.

The continuation of "Intrigue" is uncertain again and delayed indefinitely. Sorry !!!

I even did not manage my annual CD-celebration post, which I normally do, even when writing only rarely.

RA was not available in time to compensate the pressure during this chaos, because the internet connection was too twitchy and The Hobbit not yet out. (By now, I have seen the third part and more about that at a later time.)

And to hit it all off, I am searching for the source of one certain RA picture for a friend and now can't find it anywhere. If I would not have it in one of the banners and so must have the documented source files somewhere, I would think I dreamed the lovely picture. (But my twitchy file visibility is an entire mystery on itself. Or do you have file folders, which only do show up, when they like and never when you search for them? When you don't search for them, the files suddenly appear exactly where they should have been the whole time. It gets me crazy and I have no clue what causes this problem, when all the settings are to show all available files and I am the administrator with all visibility rights.)

On request by a dear RA fan and friend
and because of an infection securing my inactivity in bed and a sleepless night with headache, I found my way back to the one remedy, which like no other can turn my head and get my gray cells into a muddle and into motion at 3 a.m. at night.

Intrigue - Al Delarmy

I am no longer able to write the story the way I most likely would have done two - oh my, it is already over three (!) - years ago.
The story went along with me for three years.
My world pessimism did not lessen one bit in the meantime, but if any, did increase, which unfortunately will also influence my already world weary hero Al Delarmy.
And I left Al Delarmy alone for over three years by now, and an intelligent spy left alone for so long has time to find his own scrapes and pitfalls (so I don't need to invent some for him ;o)

Let's find out, where we find him after so long, if he found a new or the one singular love interest of his life. (I would wish it for him and had written in one character for him before the pause and now need to find out if Al likes her the way I had intended. - But, what a disappointment ! Al the romancer did put the lovely girl on hold and made it a long distance relationship! Argh !!! What more can I do as his author? Should I push him or ... ?
It is good that I, his author, now come back and take a leading hand in his fate again. He so urgently needs me to get him out of the muddle his life is and get him a happy ending.
Or, will he even get one? Or am I just mean and will put him into another 'John Bateman Nothing'? Or let him redeemingly die, sacrifice himself for the greater good?
Who knows?
Some of my acquaintances certainly are convinced that I can be mean ;o)
And with the world as it is, who knows where we will end ...

P.S.:
I am sorry for my very summarising writing style in this story.
I refer to the series' happenings and so need to get a lot of action into the background without overtaking my main line of the story, as I don't want to cut him entirely loose from the rest of the story, but embed him into his own story which is the one solution "S." was not able to reveal to us (because Al's story had not concluded and fully happened back then ;o)
To make my story work, I also need to re-arrange a lot of persons in a swift way.
As I am also personally not comfortable in the gambling halls and the underworld where I send Al into, I might gloss over some of the scenes you would most likely want to hear more in detail reports about.
To get to the main draw and angle points of the story and not to draw it out any longer than necessary - as my figure constellation is complicated enough - I hurriedly gloss over the glamorous social encounters and partying of Al Delarmy and focus on the main persons furthering the development of the secret plot of the story line.
Please feel free to enrich the social encounters of Al Delarmy in a way your fantasy likes best.
Al is much more comfortable in those environments than I am and can play the protagonists much better than I ever could. (I am always surprised by his reports about his encounters.)
I try to tell you the mere details of how Al tries to get his revenge and as Al is not a simple, one-layered character, his plans can get quite complicated, especially as he tries to get his revenge against an enemy the MI5 does not even recognize as a possible threat and Germany with open arms harbours and works with and supports as an economical saviour.

So with the following motto the story can go on:
The bad guys you can calculate with. The 'good guys' are those you need to keep an eye on.

But maybe, Al's schemes already start to work in the background and the masks begin to slide and truths start to be revealed?
Who knows ... ?

Slowly, the story will go on !
Long live Al Delarmy and that lots of his Intrigues work out the way he intends!
It would have been better, if I had done that figuratively and not literally.
But when did I ever do the prudent thing?

Well, almost never.

So, I did literally catch a cactus. Not only with one hand, but with both.
I only became aware of what was sailing down to earth in front of me, when I already had the thorns deeply embedded in my hands. It was an old - and heavy! - cactus.
Fortunately, I left out my fingers. So, as long as I don't lay my hands on the computer, but only use my fingers and don't move the wrists, I still can be fan and access the lovely fan reports and reviews of how "The Crucible" and Richard Armitage's performance is received by the journalists.

Shock aside, I survived the cactus and its long needles, even though some went straight into my wrists. And my advice should you come into a similar situation is, to remove the thorns under shock oneself, as it is less painful than waiting, as some have recommended to me, and wait to let it be done by a doctor.
I was very fortunate, that I wore my wrist watch at the time and at least some areas were protected by it.
Still, I look a bit like I have had a fight with an angry cat.

But the balm of wonderful reviews about this "production of electrifying intensity" (Charles Spencer, The Telegraph, 04.07.2014) is a healing elixir completely on its own.

Thank you, Servetus, for keeping us updated !

P.S.: Should you be waiting for a mail from me, please have patience with me. I normally write quite fast, but currently am slowed down to an almost two finger method and still have to do my quarterly tax declaration with two fingers as well. Though I am on it and will continue slowly!

P.P.S.: I am just wondering, what the cactus wanted to tell me. After I avoided a falling two meter high cactus by mere millimeters only about a month ago, I somehow had to be hit by a cactus, it seems. So another one - not even my own - tried again yesterday, catching me completely unawares.
Am I too much like a cactus, ... ?
But certainly, I will avoid needles for quite a while now, cactus' or others, as I had my good share of them now. The problem is, I just need to re-pot a few of my two meter high ones. Should I apply for a knight's suit of armour?
Guylty with her creativity is a very inspirational and encompassing member of our warm and welcoming fandom.

It is the more sad for me that she goes through such a hard time in her life.
I am always rather speechless in those circumstances, especially as I fear a similar situation in my own life and so deeply feel Guylty's current situation as if my own.

So I am happy to support Obscura's and Servetus' idea to show compassion and support for Guylty, who lost her father after short and unexpected illness.

Obscura lists the ways we can show our support by supporting charities,

either the one suggested by Guylty and her family (a German charity - where I step in to enable transfers to the German account via my PayPal-Donation button. Separate site with details and updates here.)

or the Richard Armitage charities of JustGiving (where Obscura lists the different ways to contribute either via her specially created PayPal account or directly).

Thank you very much for your friendship, support and compassion, no money could buy and which so overwhelmingly and heart-warmingly shows time and again, why the RA-fandom is the right place for me to be.
The latest interview with Mr. Armitage (The Telegraph, 25.06.2014) about his role as John Proctor in Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" made me wonder about ...

... as Mr. Armitage is mentioning something ...

"His career in television has been assisted by the fact that women find him sexy."

Mr. Armitage's answer to this is:

"I still don't get it."

And here I must admit, neither do I.

You wonder now why I am a fan then.

But that aspect is the one thing, I had always wondered about right up from the beginning of my fandom.
Do I find him sexually attractive?
I just don't know.
Really !

I find him interesting and thought provoking on so many levels, I just don't know.
I think I would have to meet him in person to answer this question or even discover a potential answer to this question. But then again, as far as I know me, I would need time to determine and find out the answer.

SEXY just would never have been among the many words I would have used to describe him.

Interesting; present (I know that word will not be entirely clear put here on its own, but for me it is so significant for him); stimulating compassion, feeling, thought, understanding; in the spot and complete in a moment (what, by the way, I never feel to be); expressive; inside and outside in harmony (while I always feel to be a contradiction inside myself); and just so much more ...

So in part, he is something I admire, what makes me better in seeing, watching, observing, listening, trying to understand, ...

So, after all this, I just never get through all the fascinating aspects of him, to discover if I would be sexually attracted to him.
And I must admit, I fear to get closer to research this question, because I fear the potential sexual attraction might overshadow my other perceptions of Mr. Armitage and his artistic message.

Perhaps that is also one of the reasons why I shy away from a real life meeting, because a moment's snapshot overshadowed by my fears would dominate my other appreciations of his multitude of facettes.

And I just fear, with sexual attraction, I would want to tear him appart and it would tear me appart equally. I am not yet ready for this totality.

The 4th Wall - Or a Clear Legal Breach

As RAFrenzy opened the discussion again, but closed comments on her post "Speaking of the Fourth Wall", I want to verify, what I see as 'fair use' and what annoyes me so much about the late discussion of using fan-art and fan-fiction and breaking down the wall between actors and viewers (well-wishers or fans or just unbiased observers). May it be slash or whatever...

The private use and sharing and reading and re-reading and enjoying, may be sometimes even hating is all totally o.k. for me.

But what a journalist did by using one slash fiction, for one to humiliate actors and - what is the legally relevant breach in her action - for another to broadcast the creation without the permission of the creator, is absolutely condemmnable for me.

I know, I am a stickler for legal correctness - but beare with me, I make my living by obeying the rules and numerous regulations, not only of one country, but various. So I have to be aware of them, what the interviewer clearly was not.

So the offensive act of the interviewer not only is a breach of moral feelings and sensibilities, but it is a legal breach of the rights of an author.
And that status not only belongs to a conventially published book author, but also to a creator of fan-fiction. May it be as slashy and offensive as it likes. That does not change the fact that the author and the author alone has the right to decide what happens with his/her work. Though in case of fan-fiction and the use of creations of others, it quite automatically involves further rights which need to be obtained before a public broadcasting can be granted!
And publishing it publicly in any other form thant the author him/herself did, like in an interview, needs permission!

That and that alone is the offensive part for me in the whole affair.
I am almost certain actors are already aware that the fantasy of their fans is rather unlimited.

So sometimes they reach out through the so-called 4th wall and try to direct the perception, the interpretation or just make a nice impression on fans (or as we learned by one of those breaches of the 4th wall by Richard Armitage, to call them 'well-wishers').

Now, lets see what the new year 2014 will bring regarding new uproars and upheavals in fandom (well-wisherdom).
